You can use any HTML markup within any menu item. The item editor has a 'Design View' and 'Code View' tab which work similar to a visual HTML editors.
If your item content needs to text wrap by default or contains additional links, use a content box. To add a content box right click a standard item and choose "Modify Items" --> "Insert Item" --> "Content Box".
